Jack had expected to find Ianto's ghost in that pub tonight, he'd come for him after all. And Ianto, even dead, had done it again: he'd taken care of Jack. He'd tricked him to save him from doing the unthinkable. The Rift was now closed forever and Jack could leave Earth behind to travel the night sky, no looking back.

He would never forget Ianto, though, and it meant the world to him that he'd found the courage to tell him.

Jack smiled and gazed up at the stars, repeating the promise he'd given tonight.

“Ianto Jones, I love you.”

Oh, they're lovely, they are. In life and death. :) This was sweet.

I love the idea of looking to the sky for Ianto, in both this drabble and the other you wrote. Really lovely.

Thank you. :) Even though they weren't really supposed to be companions. I wanted to submit Shooting Stars. It Needs Saying was just a spur of the moment thing after listening to House Of The Dead.

*welling up* This is one of the lovelier HOTD fics I've read this week. I love the thought that Ianto might watching Jack from wherever he is and that he'll always have a special place in Jack's heart.

*wibble*

(I still believe Jack will find a way to get Ianto back, or Ianto will find a way to get back to Jack though)
