Nicholas Rush had never felt that weak before, neither physically nor mentally. His extremities felt weighed down and his thoughts were slow. His memory was in pieces and he couldn't think of one reason for him to be in this situation – whatever his situation was. His eyelids felt heavy. He was lying on something solid, that much he knew. His chest was bare and he was cold. There were sounds around him, strangely distorted and muffled. Maybe voices. Maybe not. Slowly, memories were starting to come back like lightening: the planet, the ship and Colonel Young … the feeling of abandonment and loneliness. The memory of checking his watch and the cold realization that Destiny was gone. His ship had left him behind, heading to nowhere. He remembered opening the alien ship, all the control devices inside, the data base written in a language he didn't understand … a cutting pain in his chest made him groan softly and brought back his memory.

They were back. Cold fear clutched him. They were cutting him open again. The last operation had been a shock. Those aliens didn't know a thing about anesthesia. They'd merely paralyzed him, making him unable to feel any pain. But he'd been conscious through the whole procedure. He'd seen what they had done to him and the pure terror to have to go through that again was threatening to choke him.

He didn't want them to touch him, to cut him open and leave something inside of him that didn't belong there. Not again. He strained against the invisible bonds paralyzing him, he wanted to fight, get up, run away … he groaned and pushed away the last shadows of unconsciousness and the pain in his chest spread through his whole body. The effect of the aliens' drug was abating. He managed to sit up slowly. ”What are you doing to me?” His voice sounded rough, tired … full of fear. Shadows were moving above him, hands were pushing him back down – warm and familiar … human. The muffled noises became voices, the shadows became …

Lt. Johansen seemed to be stressed and said something that Nicholas couldn't quite catch in his befuddled mind. Before unconsciousness grabbed him and pulled him back under, he caught Chloe's eyes … full of fear, panic and shock. And he knew that he was back on Destiny before his senses left him once more.

Lt. Johansen was sitting at his bedside when he woke up. She smiled. ”Everything's okay,” she said gently, ”The tracking device is destroyed.”

And the fear was gone.
